Anyone seen a bad ECM cause a speedo problem?

I will agree with you. I did not deploy kickstand properly and bike went over. After righting bike when trying to start no dash indicaters. Ign dead. Noticed in odometer the word tip was showing and no start. Cycled key off for 10 sec then turned on. We then had ignition.

It came from the tip-over sensor located somewhere under the seat.

have just started pulling clutch in and turning off ignition for 10 seconds and switching it back on untill i can figure out what is causing the problem this seems to work as a short term solution.

Being able to clear the problem by re-booting the ECM does indicate the serial communication between the speedo & ECM was been broken and the two could not re-establish a handshake until a re-boot or power-on-reset takes place.

I would change the plugs and wires and see what happens. It's cheap and a problem there could easily generate enough RF to disrupt the serial communication over the 2 wire pair. Remember the coil pack is mounted just inches away from the ECM.

Electrical noise on the power lines (bus) for the speedo could cause it also. It would take some testing to nail down the cause. Never know,, changing plugs & wires just may help.
