Air Suspensions

A few have found oil in the air fill lines on the touring Harleys and wondered if it is a normal thing to see. The earlier (2000) bikes had air assist in the front forks as well as all the touring bikes with the rear air assist.

Usually the oil in the line is caused by a sudden decrease in air pressure in the system and doesn't mean much of anything on it's own.
If you use a pump that looses air pressure when you connect it to add air, this is very common happening and no need for alarm to see some oil at the valve or in a line. When the pump is connected, some air backs up in the fill system and possibly a bit of oil too.

The air pump that HD sells for about $42 will eliminate the oil in the line because there is no air loss when connecting it for the oil to back up into the line.
