HD Air Pump for Shock Adjustment

Some have asked for an explanation as to what an air shock actually does...

What these units basically are is an air over the oil that is used to dampen the road regularities. It's purpose is to enable the rider to carry a bit more weight without bottoming out the suspension. Always pump a bit of air into the shock before bleeding air out to lessen the possibility of getting oil out the filler valve.
When storing air shocks if you remove them, always cap the inlet fitting to keep the oil from leaking out.
Some riders actually will remove these air shocks and install shocks like the progressive brand shocks for a better ride without the air assist. Some companies will custom tailor the spring rate to the weight that the rider is expecting to carry and they are also adjustable for variances in weight as the load changes.

Always use a quality hand air pump like the one from HD to add air to the shocks, a gas station pump or compressor will damage the shocks. The hand pump that is available has a "no loss" valve in the head and when you connect or disconnect the pump from the shock, it will not alter the pressure in the shock unlike other air chucks.

Consult your owners manual for the MAX pressures for your bike or damage can result from over inflating.

Here's a link that will explain about shocks a bit more...
