97 Harley Road King purchased with trans leak.

Please accept my apology in advance. I have to keep my bike in storage. I just got it a few weeks ago. The bike has a pretty substantial transmission fluid leak. I am new to Harleys and have not owned a motorcycle since 2016. The leak drips dead center from behind the main case at bottom. I haven't yet identified where exactly. Not inside the case but from behind it somewhere. It drips on the clutch lever side of the bike. And a lot comes out. When popped the trans plug the bike had 6 ouces of fluid. It probably leaks down to that before it quits. So I can fill it. And it may not leak until the bike gets hot. Its definitely trans fluid as I can fill it but it will leak out again. I was thinking its a trans seal. I do not have a procedure to fix this. I have a 97 Roadking. I'd be glad if it were something else. The previous owner had brake fluid in the trans case. At least it looked like that. It did not look like trans fluid. It was clear. And badly blackened.
I'm hoping someone might know where I should start? What will Harley charge to fix trans seals? I have a mechanic but not sure if he has the tool for this. On a Softail I saw video that the smaller shaft seal requires a special tool to remove the race.
I will try to get more infor. Hard to get under it and do not want to drop the bike. No center stand to set it up.

It sounds as if you have a transmission main shaft seal leak, if you are not savvy on turning wrenches you should find an independent shop to make your repair, I have never heard of putting brake fluid in a gearbox

Once the fluid gets to a point below the lip of the seal is when it stops leaking

Make sure the transmission vent is working

Some older than me have stated that adding brake fluid to power steering fluid will help swell seals and can stop leaks, myself I would add ether and only 1 ounce at a time. I know it will swell seals a little and soften the rubber to stop oil leaks.
We use to get a product call Motor Purr, it was ether based, used it with great success for front and rear main seal leaks, but they closed down years ago
