I am having battery problems with my 87. I have replaced the battery& cables,starter,ground wire,rectifier and had it in the shop. I will have a full charge and ride for several hours and it will not start??? DUMM AS A BRICK???! any suggestions on what next???:dknow

Have you checked the voltage at the battery when it is running and then raised the RPM's to see if it increases?

Not so much the battery in question, what I meant is the voltage that is going into the battery with the motor running.

With the motor off you may see 11-12 volts and running between 13-14.5 which indicates the charging system is putting out OK.

I suspect a stator myself. There are tests that would pinpoint it.

Does the battery only go dead when the bike is running, your riding? If so follow gliders tip.
