Bubbie, so you are saying that I can align the pump without using those taper alignment pins. I am sure you know what I am talking about. A set of 3 screw in tapered pins used to align an oil pump. What's the story on those pins. Are they necessary?

I have done it Both ways.... turning for Me is easy and has worked Before I made a set of tappers.. I like the "turn a little" that seems to align it But I can Not say it is aligned differently either way.. Just works good in gear and engine turning,,,, Many here don't have the tappers or the wanting for them..$$ and time waiting.

Just like any tool If you don't have it and another way works, Why Not.

I did take out Two of my bolts (top and bottom) and put in the tapers(2) and they were not binding , so probably aligned the same..IMO
