2002 Road King Diagnostic Code

My check engine light comes on for 8 seconds after start up. I jumped the data input plug and received a diagnostic code 16, Missing Password. I started receiving the check engine light this weekend end about the same time I found I had a loose battery cable. After tightening the cable, the bike starts and runs fine.

What does diagnostic code 16, Missing Password mean? Could it have been caused by the loose cable? Do I need to take the bike in to shop?

Since the check engine light stays on for only 8 seconds, I am assuming that this is a historic message and since the bike is running fine I am wondering if I cannot just let the message cycle off.

What's your advice?

Quite possible the loose cable set the code. It will clear itself in 50 start and run cycles of at least 30 seconds each. I wouldn't give it too much thought as long as the cable was taken care of.
