2000 FXSTS electrical ?

Generally speaking, when the main breaker quits, you have no power.

If the connection on the breaker is intermittent , it may cause problems as described.

Yes, a 2000 Harley-Davidson FXSTS (Springer Softail) has circuit breakers instead of traditional fuses. This is typical of many Harley-Davidson models from that period.

What is a circuit breaker?

A circuit breaker is a reusable fuse that automatically trips in the event of an electrical problem (such as a short circuit or overload) and can sometimes reset itself after the problem is resolved. Some types require manual resetting.

Where are they located?

On a 2000 FXSTS, you'll usually find the circuit breakers:

Under the seat, near the battery

Sometimes on a fuse block or mounting plate

There are usually multiple circuit breakers, often for:

Main power (main breaker)

Lighting

Ignition

Accessories

There is no 'main fuse' but there is a 'main breaker'. It is located in front of the rear fender, on the outside of the battery compartment wall.”
They are usually round, metal "buttons" about 1-2 cm in diameter, with a small reset button on them.

Yes sir, HD used resettable breakers back in 2000. The bimetallic strip type. I know this to be fact because I worked at MOCO during those years.

I'm not saying it's not worth investigating, I was just pointing out that the symptoms of the problem do not point to the circuit breaker as the solution.

In my original post, I said "generally speaking". Im also not trying to prove anyone's response incorrect. Merely trying to share knowledge, focus on problem, and hopefully get the bike running.
