2000 FXSTS electrical ?

Good thing ,is to check the main "circuitbreaker " if applicable. These bi-metal breakers will wear out eventually , especially after 25 years.
Replace it anyway , they are cheap. Good luck :good

Hello again,
First, thanks to all those that have responded. I did follow the advice. Looked at the ignition switch and all looked good. All three hot wires were tight. Then took out the battery and all looked ok. I did take the ground cable off and cleaned the place where the cable bolts in. But cable to frame and battery were both tight. Although the battery doesn't have a strap to hold it down. I'm not sure if it is supposed but I'm sure it was supposed to. I did find a plug and will attach a couple pictures. I don't even know what this is.
And I'll look for the "main circuit breaker".

That yellow wire is most likely from the original ignition. Did you put in a new 2000I when you replaced module?

Generally speaking, when the main breaker quits, you have no power.

Your issue sounds more like ignition circuit problem.

Why did you replaced ignition a year ago? What were the symptoms? Did it run fine after replacement and before you parked bike?

Which ignition module did you use?

Did you mark the old module location before mounting new?

The questionable part is.....the electric accessories going out. Could be two separate issues.

Your symptoms seem like ignition circuit or even cam sensor related. However, they would make it run on one cylinder, but, not usually make the electric system shutdown.

Possibly, im not clear on symptoms. Provide as much detail as you can Boss....

That could be the data link

Good morning,
Been pondering this issue. But shovels4ever does bring up an interesting issue. If I remember (at 64, it's hard to do that anymore), I thought the OEM switch was not working right and come to find out it was ok. I don't think I used an OEM ignition. Pretty sure it was aftermarket. Now with that said, I'm wondering if that IS the problem. Reason I bring this up is I also have a '99 Buell X-1 Lightning. The same problem with it, ignition switch. So thinking I'd "save" some $$, I bought a sportster switch and soldered and rewired it in. Worked for a bit then found out that since the X-1 has fuel injection, that was a mistake (time and $$). So it's been sitting since spring of '24. Now I'm having a time trying to find the OEM. I'm going to check my shop and see if that switch is still around.

Ya can't listen to me! Im the same age and can't remember my own name....lol! Of all the things I've lost, I miss my memory the most!

I believe id go back and trace my steps. Possibly a cold solder joint? Food for thought....

Possibly one of the spades is in a different position, ya could check out those possibilities using a wiring diagram.

You will have to set up account as guest, but, you should be able to find a schematic on that site.

If you need help interpreting, post schematic and we will help Boss.

When you have a chance, see if the ignition module is original. I think that yellow wire was part of the ignition circuit originally. Some models, the yellow wire was part of lightning and dash circuit. Others, the yellow wire was part of ignition circuit.

Good question on the codes. Unfortunately I don't have anything to read them with, although a excellent idea. I'll have to look into that. Any suggestion on what type to buy ?
And I'll take seat of later this evening or tomorrow. Thank you for the reply.
The codes are usually retrieved by the trip button. Look up your bike on YouTube, there’s probably a video somewhere on it.

In the early 90s a yellow wire leading to the headlight could be snipped so headlight was not on during cranking to start the engine
