1st service

If you aren't handy, you should probably get the first service done at the dealers. It is more than an oil change. There are things to check out like front end drop away and maybe you have discovered something while riding a 1000 miles that should at least be looked at. However, if you have the service manual and I think everyone should have one for their model bike, then you can perform all the things the factory way, by following the manual. A jack is useful too for a lot of the maintenance.
One thing I always do and a dealer won't is taking out my tube of blue Loctite and loctiting the threads of every bolt and screw that could possibly ever loosen up on it's own. All the torque specs are in the manual and using the blue means you can get them out/off easy when needed. Some things actually need red Loctite, but it is permanent and takes heat to break loose. You can't get in trouble with the blue. Doing this will save a lot of stuff from coming loose or worse yet, falling off.
