Cool bike. I see what you mean, has that 50's feel. I think, depending where you were riding to, dictates what looks best. Local pub, then bags off. Ride to Vegas, bags on. Great looking bike either way.
 
Nice looking bike and I would go with leather bags but it is your bike and your dollar. That head light and nacelle look like they may be Gilroy Indian. So if you break the lens just look in Ebay or find an Indian dealer.
