I have a 79 shovel that is 41/2 stroke 4 in pistons forgot cam but it will not time correctly ultima ign when it is at tdc the light should just go out I have to turn plate all the way retarded (with hold down screws out )for it to work the way the instructions say motor run before rebuild same stuff in motor but new cam (same size cam) checked all key ways but pinion to flywheels every thing is lined up (also cam gear is on cam right) anybody know where the keyways on pinion shaft line up when at tdc(looking at cam side using the clock as reference) so I can tell if pinion spun in flywheel thanks much for help have tried new ign also to make sure it was working right same problem

The pinion shaft is keyed to the flywheel. Looking at the 3 key ways on the pinion shaft they appear to be in line with each other. Look at item # 31. I never payed any attention to there alignment with TDC. You may want to try a Shovel forum at http://shovelhead.usa
