We had our Toy Run here in Olympia Washington this Saturday. It started out as foggy and 34 degrees but cleared up a bit and went all the way to 43 or so.
A few people showed up----they estimated between 17,000 to 20,000 people arrived with toys hanging off their bikes for the kids.
Ever hear 20,000 Harleys at once? It has to be what Heaven sounds like.:D
It was reported they collected over $230,000 worth of toys for the kids.

Thanks for the posting of this event...

I used to be one of the group for many years BUT this year I'm down in COOL Az...

I always looked forward riding from Enumclaw to the staging area you show in the picture at Lacy...The news media HAS NEVER given much of the deserved report but only say a bunch of bikers gave toys to the Salvation Army in Olympia. OVER 20,000 this year.............Must think we are all BAD for the Lack of a good report...

I can remember last year, Slapping hands with the MANY hundreds who gathered along the police escorted and blocked off highway, along the route to Olympia where the toys and $$ are left off.

Believe me I still get chills and a Happy tear, thinking about the MANY Hundreds of people with their Kids lined-up along on both sides of the highway CHEERING all the bikers as they PROUDLY ride to the drop-off point , several miles away.

I'm not kidding about the High Fives and the low ones from Kids running out close to the bikers to slap hands...

JUST GREAT to be a part of something so BIG and NEEDED...Worth while and so REWARDING in a Special Way From the Heart.... No media report is needed....

You'd have to be "One" there to GIVE:small3d005: and Ride that Ride to fully understand.:D

gasbag, the picture you attached is awesome, and 20,000+ bikes...WOW!

It was a fun event but I do believe I froze off all the hairs on my legs.
That however may not be a bad thing.:D

Gas Gauge..............yup, I love it here too. Some of the most gorgeous scenery I have ever scene for riding. I live 90 miles from both Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, the ocean, the Olympics, the Cascades........have trouble deciding where to ride.
I live in the country about 100 miles south of Seattle and there are more Harleys down here than you can count. It is rare to see a sport bike out and about. They are all a bunch of great people too.
 
Just got back from Oahu and wouldn't you know it there was a Toy Run running through Waikiki Beach front...not quite as big but 6,000 motorcycles running thru was quite impressive. Hard to imagine that many bikes on a 50 x 30 mile island paradise...but the rolling thunder was unmistakable! Pretty amazing to see the sportbike riders doing wheelies and stoppies with police escort. I'll post up some pix when I get them uploaded. :eek:) Glider...they did have a Big ol' Red Suited Guy on a Ultra pulling a SLED...giving his reindeer a rest no doubt. We accept no pretenders be it HDTimeline or Hawaii :p
 
Great post! Makes me proud to be affiliated with the "biker" crowd. Interesting, as Bubbie pointed out, that there was hardly any news coverage of that magnanimous event.
 
We've been having toy runs in Maine for 34 years I think, 10 to 14,000 bikes a year and the news media might give a little tiny blip on the news about it. But if someone laid a bike down somewhere headline is "motorcycle crash - not wearing a helmet" and they don't say a word about a car pulling out in front of the bike.:naughty
