Tourpak warning!!

Folks,

For all of you that have a bagger with a tourpak on the back, please heed this warning. The restraint cable on my '03 Ultra broke resulting in the cracks shown below. Unfortunately, I did not realize this was a potential problem and never added a backup system to prevent the sort of damage that can result from the cable failing when the box is open.

To prevent this sort of damage on my '12 Ultra, I have added a backup chain wrapped around the OEM cable. I got the chain from Lowes or Home Depot along with some longer ss fasteners and ss washers.

It is not tight, so the cable is still taking the weight of the box top when it is open. But if the cable fails, the chain will prevent the top from whipping around to the sidebox and splitting the sides of the tourpak box.

Good job TQ you should move this to the self help section:s

Good warning TQ. I did a similar backup with 30 lb. fishing line. I attached one end to the cable bracket, then wrapped about 3-4 turns around the cable and tied off at the other cable bracket.
Your should add it to the self help.

That hurt to look at your pictures. I'll have to shore up that cable or something to hopefully prevent that.
