Tire Mounting Precautions

Balance Dots.
When a new tire is installed, there will be a painted dot on the sidewall to indicate the lightest spot. This should be aligned with the valve stem which is the heaviest spot and then the wheel should be dynamically balanced. If the tire doesn’t have a balance spot it usually indicates a cheaper tire that should be avoided. Also pay attention to the directional arrow on the sidewall for direction of rotation.
If your tire has been improperly installed with the balance dot elsewhere from the tire stem location it would probably present balancing problems like using more weights than necessary to counterbalance out the mistake. Don’t correct the balancing dot to it’s proper location if you discover this situation on your own ride as the tire will have tried to correct the situation by how it wears. The situation will become wrong again instead of right as the tire must attempt to adapt to the change.
