Throttle cables

After replacing my bars and removing the old throttle cables, i noticed what looked like a sensor or switch in the middle of one of the cables. Has 2 wires going to it. The new cables do not have this on it. 1) What is it
2)do I need it

Never mind, I believe it is for the cruise control which i don't have or want.

It is the cruise control switch. If you dont have it. No worries.

Yep, it's called the "roll off" switch. Puzzled the heck out of me when I first saw it on my bike.
