Here's something I have been doing for years to keep my power tool cords, test leads, small ropes, entertainment system cords, etc. from doing their tangle like a jungle act. I wrap a couple turns of duct, or other strong tape around the cardboard tube that's in the middle of paper towels and T.P. Then I cut it into about 2 inch lengths. I coil my power cord up and slip one side of the coil into the tube, now I just have a pigtail that can't make a tangle. It works good on cords up to skill saw size and length.
