Tack and volt meter problem

I have a 1987FLHTC Looks great runs great but...at times the Tack drops to 0 and back, while the volt meter goes crazy. Engine sounds and runs fine while it's doing this. Any ideas? Or do I just take it in and pay the hr. rate while they go a lookin? Thanks for any help. Tom

You're probably looking at a bad plug in the harness or even a broken wire in the harness. Depending on your skills in trouble shooting the problem, it may be a better idea to have the dealer do it.

Years of fooling with electronics: always check the ground side of the circut.

Thanks for the help guys. Sounds like it's probably beyond my meger capabilities, but it should be be able to get me to the dealer.
