tachometer ?

My tachometer quit working yesterday. Anyone have any troubleshooting experience that may be any help to me? When I turn the ignition key on the tach needle will bounce slightly so I'm not sure the tach is the problem. If I am not mistaken the signal for the tach comes from the coil, I checked and that connection is OK. Any help would be appreciated. My bike is a 2003 XLH 1200.

Have you checked the power and ground at the tach end of the wires?

Not yet but when I turn the ignition switch on the illumination bulb lights up and every time I would turn the ignition switch on the needle would bounce slightly so I just assumed I was getting power.
