Starter replacement on '93 FXLR

Replacing a worn out starter on 1993 FXLR, thought the old one would slip right out, thought wrong. Question is - Is there a C-clip on the end of the starter shaft where it engages the jackshaft that needs to be removed from the jsckshaft side before the starter can be removed? Manuals don't seem to show enough info and the starter only comes out about a 1/4 inch before it seems to catch. Thanks, HDBluse

You have to open up the primary to remove the bolt in the starter drive gear.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll pick up the necessary parts in the AM and get to it. Weathers been pretty good down here in the sunshine state and I've already waited 2 weeks for a starter so I'm itching to get back on the road.
Thanks again, HDBluse

The starter drive gear bolt has a wee tab washer that holds it tight i would get a replacement prior to starting as the tab tends to brake off when it is moved to allow you to get the bolt out
