Starter Jackshaft Oil Seal

'First time poster' alert! Trying to find a copy of the HD service bulletin on the new style jackshaft seal for the inner primary, bulletin # M1161. Neither the service manual or the replacement seal itself indicate the 'oil side'. The patient is an 04 FXSTB. Would also be interested in advice on installing the seal back into the primary.

When you discuss the 'grooved side faces out', you are talking 'out' to the starter, versus 'outboard of the bike'. If that is the case, oops. Back to HD for more parts...
What is a technique to tap it in? I used the flat end of a socket and a deadfall hammer, while bracing the inner primary against a solid surface.
