Sportster Speedo Problem

Hi everyone,

I have a '96 1200 Sportster. Today while riding the plastic cap at the base of the speedo needle came off and is bouncing around under the glass. How do I get to it to fix it? I tried going through the back panel, but that doesn't appear to be the way. But I don't see another way. Any help?

Even if you could get it all apart, it would never be the same again, I would start looking for a replacement
