i have a 2012 Sportster oil cap that pops up and leaks oil when I ride. Any fixes for this issue?

How tight does it fit? it should fit fairly tight when installed. If it fits tight you may be building to much internal pressure.

It pops up when the inside of my thigh makes contact with it. A friend thinks the spring mechanism has weakened and it needs a heavier gauge spring. Just wondered if anyone else has encountered this problem and solved it. Thanks for replying, Jeff!
Ok, thought by your 1st post it was popping up on it's own.
It's possible it's lost it's tension and my need to be replaced. There are aftermarket oil caps you may want to check into as well. Good luck.

This has been a problem The MOCO has not addressed, they are blaming operator error for a part that is poorly made IMO 1/4 turn past tight, tho I do not trust that

Perhaps a new one will have the bugs ironed out. Guess I'll have to spring for one, lol!

See if part number has a alpha suffix and that will tell if part has been updated..
There are aftermarket ones that will actually lock with a key.
