Setting Ignition Points

I have found the feeler gauge setting to be OK on most older ignition systems, but on a few kick only you have to be fairly dead on otherwise you will spend some time trying to get it started.

What I have found is after you get the points in the ballpark with a feeler gauge, I use a tach and dwell meter to zero them in for an accurate setting electronically and it really helps with the starting.

You connect the dwell meter as usual on to the point lead and a suitable ground, then using the 4 cylinder scale you set the points to 32* based on 1/2 the reading of the meter on the 4 cylinder scale being the Harley is only a 2 cylinder. You zero it in with the engine at idle.

Works like a charm and the motor starts much easier.
