Setting Carb Base Line

I've been messing with the carb on my '04 XL883 over the past few months trying to eliminate those dreaded carb farts. I want to return to a semi stock setup again as a base line and re-tune.

What is the proper amount of turns for the carb idle speed setting? I'm talking about the screw that controls the butterfly stop. I know on Holly carbs there was a suggested amount of clearance for the butterfly to cover a transfer slot. What might that be on a Harley CV carb?

I know that the idle mixture screw is best set at 2 to 2-1/2 turns then fine tuned.

If I read you right , the idle speed is set to the proper RPM and not to the turns out on the screw.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I keep reading in all the tech help stuff. But I've adjusted and readjusted the screw so many times now I don't know where it started at. My goal here is to start all over. Set the idle screw some where close to where it was before I started all this if that makes any sense.
