Went to the Rolex 24 at Daytona on Sunday. Drove into the infield, walked around and saw some fast cars. I was standing at the exit of a horseshoe turn and all of a sudden this Corvette spins out and crashes right in front of me!!! I ducked and all the concrete and grass goes flying. Here is a pic below.

I got lost in the infield, found myself in all of these high priced million dollar motor homes, high priced golf carts with chrome rims and then 5 motor homes away, 2 policemen escorting Jimmie Johnson to a Chevy Tahoe and no one was around except me. That was neat, but had no time for a pic, I just got out of there before I got in trouble.

You gotta love horsepower and speed!!!

That is way cool, I got to go there once as part of a team. My friends here locally own a shop, & I was hanging out up there one evening, sitting in Lynn St James land speed record car & what not. :D So my friend says "Can you run down to the airport & pick up one of the drivers?" Sure, no problem. Then she proceeds to tell me I can't pick up Max Papis in a pick up truck. So I said 'Let me take your car.' :D She throws me the keys to her BMW & says 'It doesn't have a 1000 miles on it yet, be careful, and whatever you do, don't let Max drive!" Of course, I had know idea who Max Papis was at the time, but it was all fun. Later, she says I need to go to the race with them, so I drove down & met up with them.

I got to throw a tire over the wall for one of the pit stops. I was originally going to actually change the tire, but it was a really close race at the time and I didn't want to take a chance & screw up and cost the race, so I swapped back with the other guy. :) That was in 2002, here is a link to they're car, I'll have to dig out some pix some time, I know I have them.

They ended up winning that year, so I got to end the trip with getting my picture taken in the winners circle. :D :D

The team I was with is Doran Racing. I'm sure he is racing something, I'll have to get in touch with them & say hey now that I'm thinking about them. Haven't talked to them in a while. Thanks for taking me back in time. :s

He dropped the banner trying to get away from the out of control cars. :D

Fish, that is too cool! I watched about 5 hours total of the race this year and enjoy Grand Am racing MUCH more then I enjoy Nascar due to the generic run around a ring it has become.

I went to the race here in LAS every year for the first 6 years we lived here and after the COT and the(EDIT) of letting Toyota build a special Nascar engine (V-8)I no longer spend $600/weekend to go to the race. I may be lucky to watch the 500 and a Taladega race on TV.

What I am getting at, is I really appreciate the endurance built into the cars for the Rolex. Not to mention all the strategy.

Much more enjoyable than Nascar..

Cool story joyflyin. I love autosports, you can get so close to the drivers and crews. My wife told me to get a pic of Patrick Dempsey, but never saw him. His two Mazdas were really fast. The new Camaro raced (2 in the field) and they had a totally different sound than everything else.

I would guess that I was on SPEED when that crash happend. And yes, I did alot of ducking! I yelled "Watch out", and this mother pulled her kid so fast and hard away from the fence, I thought she dislocated his arm.

Can't wait for next year.

Ride safe and have fun.
