Rattling in the engine HELP!!

I have an 05 Softail Springer and today riding home I started to hear a rattling noise coming from the engine. It's there whether you're driving or idling. Any ideas?

front , back, top-end???? Is it from the eng. comparment or somewhere else???

Does it sound like it is coming from the left side towards the front of the primary? Like if the compensator nut had backed out and the rotor is flopping around? Had that same noise on my bike!! Of course the drive shaft had sheared out the rotor teeth very nicely and they got into and shorted the stator which messed up the voltage regulator, but that is another story.
