primary removal

anyone ever used shop rags tied into a knot and then jammed between the sprocket and chain to lock the primary up?i read it being done on another brand of motorcycle to remove the clutch basket assembly and was wondering if it would work on the harleys?

Probably would work as long as it doesn't put excessive strain on the newer automatic chain tensioners. I believe this is why they went to the bar for locking the shafts instead of the step tool of past.

How about adding the year of your bike to your avatar area.

Impact wrenches are not a great choice because it can loosen the epoxy that retain the magnets in the rotor.

Would anyone know what the actual HD locking tool (#47977) is made of. When installing a SE compensator, before I reached 140 ft lbs, it blew out (broke) my home made 1/2" cutting board locking tool like it was not even there. Then it blew out (broke) my home made wooden locking tool.

That genuine tool must be made of aluminum.(?)
