Primary chain auto-adjust procedure - engine hot or cold

Got a loose primary chain. Is there a recommendation to do the auto adjust procedure with engine up to operating temp or with engine cold. Seems if you do cold when there is more slack in the chain, that may be too tight when engine gets up to operating temp?

Have to agree with you but can say I have never seen anything written that states whether it should be done cold or warmed up.
