Old OEM ECM

Is there anything that can be done with a old ECM? A Harley Tech told me that the Ignition circuit is bad. Can this thing be reset up? Or is it a good paperweight?

Actually the ECM is a potted unit (epoxy or thermally conductive/protective moisture barrier. It is also done intentionally to prevent user tampering...and likeyl you will damage it as potting generally does not dissolve or "chip away" cleanly without damaging components. I work with some manufacturer that uses clear potting, so no need to dissolve or scrape, just decap or grind away the cover down the component layer and look into the design a bit. :newsmile040:

If you do try to take it apart, you may want to pass it to Hopple...he has done some disassembly of other components in the past. :s

the HD ecm circuit board is covered in a sticky clear gel, it breaks into clumps when you try remove it, and you would have to be a very big computer nerd to fix a fault with it.

The H-D tech is telling you the out ignition circuit is bad due to an internal circuit board malfunction....Paperweight. You won't gain anything by trying to fix it....the paperweight you had will just be thrown away in pieces.
