oil change, syn vs mineral

just got my 06 softail deluxe in July, 2500 miles.

I want to change the oil soon. I want to put synthetic into the bike but what if the oil that is in there now is mineral? The guy that I purchased the bike from said that it had syn oil but he might have said that because he was trying to sell it.

any advice?
 
Synthetic oil and dino oil will mix without any problems so changing the oil shouldn present a problem.
 
Go ahead and make the change. Get the the engine warmed up and drain the old oil. If it is conventional oil any that is left in will mix with the syn.
 
Change all 3 fluids.That way you: (1)know what you've got in there and (2)you know when it went in there.


Now you'll have a base mileage for all future oil changes.
