Octane rating - Americas vs. the rest of the world

I've reacted on the seemingly low octane rating in the US & Canada. I am in Europe, where we have 93/96/98 octane everywhere.
After some searching and reading I have concluded that we have two different systems for octane ratings, where your rating number is about .95 of ours. This means that our high octane, the 98, equals your 93 or so.
So, we are not that different after all;).
Mine is BTW mostly run on euro 93 - as I have not noticed any difference using high octane. Mind you, mine is close to stock (but won't be in the spring...)

Ok, now I am going to deter any US citizen from ever coming to visit us (which is a shame, so I do it regretfully;)
The price here is:

- conversion to US gallon and $ pause -

about $7.00 per US gallon. On a bad day: $7.50 per gallon
The only good thing is you can chose to either have ethanol in your bike or in your body over here...
