Newer softail tail light mounting

Can anyone with a newer softail (2000+) please provide me with some photos on how the tail light base mounts to the fender? I have a 96 model and I want to retrofit a newer style LED tail light to my bike, but I need to know what I must do to the fender in order to accomplish this task.

I suppose you have to remove the bracket ,that holds the rear light. An after 2000 model has a flat fender , as shown on the pic.
