New Motor time

Hi All

This is my first post here. My new to me 1998 Heritage is in need of an engine rebuild. I thought hard about doing it my self. I have done many other engines before From small 2 strokes through all types of car engines to many large diesels but never a Harley.

My next thought was Kendall Johnson. He will do an EVO stock for $1800 and a 90hp EVO for $2800. those prices sound great to me. I am only 3 hours from his shop.

I ride 2 up a lot. the extra power would be nice as long as it is reliable.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.

Sounds like a great deal to me. I spent that on an 80" EVO Reman. from Harley. Does he offer any type of warranty? I'm talking about the 90hp job.
 
For Me:

A lot of What is rebuilt? Just the top end? New parts that WILL be used?

ASK.....

Many things to be answered here...

You can do an Evo top end without a problem more than Likely yourself...:s

Reboring the cylinders, good pistons/rings, a little higher compression when having the heads ported a little.

What about the Crank?

See what he comes up with when you ask about His New Parts he uses in the big build?...

Just things I'd want to know...

Like what BUBBIE said, nice to know exactly what the 1800 or 2800 is buying you and Don's question about warranty. Things you'll need to know before pulling the trigger.
 
Johnson has a great reputation, but BUBBIE has you pointed in the right direction. Please let us know if you get the answers to the questions and if you plan to go with the rebuild.
 
All good questions here, what is the turn around time and do you get to pick the cam and other hard parts?
 
Looks like Jack has some real important questions for you to ask. I guess you should also ask just where does the motor make the HP. A lot has to do with the type of riding you do and just where you need the power. I think I would also want to know what type of torque curve the 90hp motor has.
