New Kind of Oil Filter

Fossil, my post #100 in the oil filter poll below listed this reusable stainless steel element filter you are referring to. The opinions were rather eh...critical...it is a 35 micron filter...okay for my Sporty perhaps, but not for Big Twins that need 5 micron filtering...and keeping in mind that hydraulic lifters and tight tolerance surfaces require very well filtered oil to prevent excessive wear.

New kind of performance oil filter. Does any one out there know any thing about this oil filter. It sounds good but is kind of pricey. I could buy a lot of Harley filters for the asking price of this new kind. Fossil

I was tempted to go this way at one time since they do a great job with their marketing hype. But on my '03 UC I need much smaller particle size filtration. On my '91 Dyna just like on your bike, we only need 30 microns or there abouts. I strongly recommend the WIX filters for these applications. This is what I use (chrome is the 51225):

Will not break the bank, and if you are really AR, you can change one out half way BETWEEN your oil change interval. Buy a "super-strength nickel-plated neodymium rare earth magnet" from you local school supply store or on line for less than $2.00, and stick that on the end of your WIX filter. Just don't forget to take it off when you change the filter!!

TQ

I'm going to try a HUGE cow-stomach magnet on the under side of my oilfilter.... that should pick out ALL the steel in the oil..... Hope it doesn't pull parked motorcycles into mine and nails nuts n bolts off highway.

Well, at least we will know the reason why people are "drawn" to your bike!!!:newsmile100:

One of the concerns of the "cleanable" filter element is, just how clean can you get a 35 micron multi layered screen clean with normal solvent soaking and air drying.

I visualize a kitchen hood fan air filter, when they get greasy and dirty, and trying to clean it, debris is stuck in the media that does not come out...so what happens at the 30-35 micron level when trying to clean the element? This is why I stick with a dispoible type, yeah more polluting and environmentally unfriendly, but look at the alternative...
