little "worm" holes in air filter?

I get these little hole in my air filter on my 2010 fxstc after a 1000 or so miles. Looks like worms have been eating the element ? (BIG EDIT)

I've never seen this, wondering if maybe the bike is stored for a few days at a time and you have an infestation of paper eating bugs.
