Lights out

Just bought a 1996 Springer Softail with 11,000 miles. Driving home that night I noticed the lights all went out. I stopped and restarted and they came back on. It has done this several times already and it is kind of scarey on a dark night. Any ideas?

Check the wiring on the back of the ignition switch or suspect the switch itself. Did you turn the switch off when you restarted it or just hit the start button?

I was at a stop light when they went off the first time for just a second and they came right back on. The last couple of times I pulled over and shut down using the stop switch not the ignition switch. The engine is running just fine.
