Installing Tank Decals

Ever wonder how to install tank decals? Well the recommended way is the "wet method" especially when applying large decals but is also very useful on any decal applied to an irregular surface. Follow the steps below for a perfect application every time.

Thoroughly clean the surface where the decal is to be placed.
Place the decal in the desired position before removing the backing paper to get an idea of how the decal should be aligned.
Mix up a soapy water solution using some household clothing or dish washing detergent and liberally wet the surface with solution where the decal is to be applied.
Remove the backing paper from the side of the decal with the sticky surface only. (Important: If the decal has a protective paper (usually on larger decals only) on the side opposite the sticky surface, leave it in place. This material is to protect the decal and to keep the decal from distorting during its application)
Place the sticky surface of the decal directly on to the soapy surface of the object. Make sure the surface of the object HAS NOT DRIED OUT BEFORE APPLYING THE DECAL.
Slide the decal on to the soapy surface into the desired position.
While carefully holding the decal in place with one hand, use a window squeegee to remove soapy water from between the decal and the object. NOTE: A smaller squeegee approx. 6" wide with one edge made of rubber and one edge made of hard plastic works very well. Use the rubber sided of the squeegee so as not to damage the decal. If the plastic edge must be used, be careful so as not to damage the decal. Carefully, to avoid cocking the decal, work in different directions to remove all the water and air trapped between both surfaces.
Clean the remaining soapy water from the surface.
Carefully remove the protective paper from the decal if there is one, and final clean the decal and the surrounding area
