Installing new sealed bearings

I have read the hd instructions on installing new bearings. One question, is it possible to install the first on the left too far into the hub? Harley says not to exceed the recommended torque when installing them but since there is nothing to stop the first one can it be seated too far into the hub?

I have never installed the bearings but my friend with a Heritage had new bearings installed when they mounted a new tire.
The bearings were too far to the left off the proper depth causing the cantering of the rim to be to the right leading to the bracket of the caliper rubbing the rotor .
There was a spacer between his bearings.
We noticed the markings where the old bearing on the right was visible showing the new bearing close to 1/8 inch further in than where the old bearing was.
So check the area of the hub before removing the bearing so you have a better idea of what you want to see when done.
