I know some of you guys don't have to wear helmets by law, but where I live "DOT" is required. My helmet of choice is not DOT approved.Just wondering have any of you ever been ticketed for illegal helmet and how much was it?

In 1997 written warning in Florida for non DOT helmet, now we have no mandatory law

Use to have a old steel nazi helmet from WW2 or one of the wars, I use to wear riding because of helmet laws, but got flak from the man because it was not DOT aproved, so I was in a bike shop looking at aproved helmets and what do you know, a DOT sticker fell out and stuck to my hand, well a little glue and what do you know, DOT aproved:)

Funny you should mention that, the FLHP said most states dont hassle you over the non approved DOT sticker because it is a conflict of interest, states cannot mandate what helmet you buy, only that it has a dot sticker on it, guess thats why I only got a warning ticket in 1997, Jack

Ticketed in NY on the way to Harley Rendezvous $20 fine +$55 in fees.:newsmile08:

WASHINGTON STATE really HAS got looking at helmets..... The fine is 124$ and they need the money here.

I traded off the ILLEGAL one I rode with. It had a DOT sticker on it... But bot the real thing (found a light one) just to be safe AND NOT PAY A FINE... I'll also wear a LIGHT helmet while in AZ. just to keep waste length hair in tune with my ride...CAUSE I WANT TO
I SPORT LONG HAIR, PACK A GUN(legal) and I am NOT a LIBERAL,,, AND I don't think WEARING of seat-belts nor helmets should be a LAW... IF you want to wear them OKAY but no LAW...

THANKS TO TODAYS POLITICS, THIS is WHAT I AM

I LEAN TO THE FARTHEST RIGHT I CAN, WITHOUT A GAP BETWEEN MY SHOULDER AND THE WALL I LEAN AGAINST.... I guess that would be far right.

signed....BUBBIE

The heck of it is there is no such thing as a DOT APPROVED helmet. I proved that several years ago in the socialist state of California after getting a helmet ticket. If you doubt my word just request a list of approved helmets from the DOT and if they reply they will tell you they don't approve helmets.

Chopper...you are a "bad" man...or more generically referred to as an "outlaw" or the very least an "accidental one" if the moniker "sticks"...".:laugh

Haven't yet bought my non-DOT helmet, but plan to real soon. The DOT helmets make you look like a mushroom (or something else).

The same thing happened here too. You would think they would adhere better. :s
