Hi all,

Hopefully i'm going next week to view a very low milage used 2000 fatboy ...

what you guys suggest on those things I have to focus on ...

Regards

Find out how she was maintained. Lots of years and low miles could mean sitting with old oil, stale gas and the like.

I picked up a 1999 Fatboy 6 months ago. It had only 4500 miles. Just check the oil, gas , and records. Also get the vin number and call HD and have the maintenance dept check to make sure all is ok and no major things need to be done.. Other than that Enjoy.........................

Good luck with your evaluation of the bike. Hope it turns out to be a great deal. Here are my suggestions:

  • Check for trouble codes. If you have a reader like TwinScan (see here Daytona Sensors LLC - News) makes it easier and faster, otherwise:
00-03 HD Codes And Activation - Harley Davidson Community

  • Check for modifications and all additions. If breather and slip-ons were added, was the system remapped or is there a fuel manager.
  • This model has spring loaded cam chain tensioners. Have they been checked.
  • Like everyone else said, records of maintenance (fluid changes)
  • Visually check the brake pads, front and rear
  • Grab the front brake and rock the bike forward and backwards listening for any "clunking" or noise from the front end.

Here is a useful link to get some comparisons:

Let us know how it goes.

TQ
