Stock filter 13 Heritage, 5000 miles on bike. Would like to clean myself. Thanks
Hot soapy water let air dry for stock filter
Never cleaned a newer one BUT,,,I'd go at it with ari on the inside blowing outward. I have used Air even on the outside blowing Carefully across the veins to remove larger debris.
Of course this is with the element out and off the bike.
I have and many others have used the ones you can Wash in water. Swishing around in a soapy laundry tub is my favorite way, then run water from the inside thru to the outside. Removing water: I use a long arm circle wind-up motion in an out-door spot to remove excess. I lube with WD-40. I know there are other lubes out there Made for the Mesh air filters but I llke my WD...
Paper elements are easily Replaced with a new one, think that is what HD recommends. I have still blown then with air from the inside to the out to remove dust/dirt.:s
Light tapping also accomplishes some cleaning...
just my way
Owners manual tells how to clean paper filter and advises not to oil.Check it out.
Harley filters = no oil
K&N filters = light mist of oil
Stock filter...if it's covered, you should be good. Check again around 10,000 miles.
I have a stock paper filter, and I clean it every 5k with compressed shop air.
I've only replaced it once so far.
Good Infomation,thanks Family
