houston to Key West

there are a few of us that are planing a trip from Houston to Key West this spring. we want to spend our time on the back roads not on the major inter states. if anyone has any thoughts on sections of road that would make a great ride lease let me know and we will work it into the trip. right now we are looking at 10 days, but that could change depending (on what we really want). we also want to do some fishing along the way. not sure if we are going to camp or hotel it yet as we are just in the planing stage now.

ok Jack i know you know all the roads down there. give us some good ones and i will bring you some fantastic home made BBQ sauce.

pics will be posted (if i can do it right)

Coming out of Houston, when you get to Winnie, drop down to 73 and take that along to pick up 82 down to the Coast and into Louisiana. Go all the way to Abbeville and pick up LA 14. Take that to New Iberia and then pick up 182 South. Take that to 90 at Calumet, and run it to New Orleans. Take I-10 out of NO and pick up 90 (Chef Menteur Blvd/Hwy) to Mississippi. Run along the Coast to Tillmans Corner and pick up I-10 to Mobile then across into Florida. Run down 110 and pick up FL 98. Run East on 98 to Perry. Pick up FL 19 and run down the Gulf side to 41 running South. It will veer East to Miami. If you are tired of the Gulf, whenever you start running mostly Southeast, run across on something East and pick up US 1 South. That will take you all the way to Key West.

Not sure I'll be able to get a hall pass then. My seventh is due right around that time, and I think Momma will take a dim view of me wandering off at that point!!

TQ

T Q has a good plan, if you dont like a lot of traffic I would avoid Miami if you come in from the west you can skirt Miami to Homestead or Florida City on the toll road I hate Miami traffic it is a lot of stop and go lights:s

Hiway 10 into Florida south on 41 I would ride it to the turn pike to avoid Miami traffic been there done that unless you want to visit South Beach, it is pretty cool with a lot of art deco , when you get off the turnpike its a straight shot to the Keys and a wonderful ride:s

Some of my friends are talking about doing the ride from fort worth area I have rode as far as tampa that run across florida on I-10 is the most boring in the world, seems like most of the trip is on that section of road. My wife is a gambler so we stayed at the casinos in biloxi for free, that is almost exactly halfway from fort worth to tampa little closer to houston. We took seven days hard two day ride each way ,spring is actually the dry season in florida we went in summer, never again ,rained on constantly sometimes very hard march april you might not get to wet..good luck have fun..Tom..

How true. I went to Sun 'n' Fun and Leesburgh a couple years ago in mid April and never even saw a cloud for 5 days!

When are you planning on going am also going to hook up with some cousins in late April to go to Key West from Baton Rouge?

Black pearl maybe we could meet up along the way for a cold one

we are thinking April or May all depends on our work schedules which very a lot. good chance a friend wants to come in his truck and camper so he can do some fishing. so we also have a place to carry our fishing rods which is always nice. we are still not sure but are talking about tents vs hotels.
