Highway Bar

Just bought a Kuryakian Mustache bar for my 08 1200c. Added the HD flame pegs to match the rest. Very happy with this purchase.

My Sporty also came with a highwaybar ( not mounted).
What is the purpose of the bar?

Intended purpose is to limit damage in low speed (read that as stopped or in parking lots) drops. Also a good place to put accessories...running lights, footpegs for alternate riding positions, etc.

As a brand new rider, I dropped my brand new Sportster, which had an engine guard, in slow speed turns twice. (There, I've admitted it in public for the first tim!) No visible damage. Bruised ego. Certainly saved me a lot of $$$$.

Another unintended usage of the crash (highway?) bar is that you can safely lay the bike on its side for minor mechanical work. I don’t own a lift, hey if I wasn’t cheap I would have bought a big-twin over the Sportster anyway.

When I changed rear shocks the bike was way too heavy to lift by hand. However by gently laying the bike down on the crash bar the shocks were easily swapped.
