It's a left over hole from the casting process that is plugged. Some folks have utilized these for oil temp or oil pressure sending unit installations. As Smitty said sometimes it does not work out as expected.

A ahern25 Active Member May 19, 2011 #3 Not sure what its for but I know the scavenger oil draining system has u use that hole to fully drain all the dirty oil out.
