Headlight electrical problem

Fatboy Low

New Member
I ride a 97 fatboy Low. Im on my 3rd headlight in a month. I thought it was the bulbs. Got sylvania all 3 times and none of them lasted over a week. The first 2 were out within 3 days. Well today the "dead bulb" that was still in came on all of a sudden. Then i noticed one of them i had arc beads on the 3 small prongs on the back of the bulb. Anyone have any idea?

Seems to me ,this is a result of poor grounding , of the bulb. Check this groundwire itself ,and the connections to the ground.
Maybe an extra groundwire , would be a good idea !.

Also check and tighten the butt connectors in the plug.
Pinch them until they leave scratch marks on the lamp spades,
When loose it can cause arcing.

A loose, or bad connection will always cause heat, the brighter the bulb the more load and heat. Change the socket to a better one if possible, some are not tight enough.
