Engine temperature question

Time to change the oil on my 2015 road king. Took bike for a 1/2 hr ride to get the engine warm. Decided to take engine temperature readings with my infared temp gun with my FP3 also hooked up. Readings were taken 1 min after stopping:
Outside air temp 95 deg
Front head 268 deg
Rear head 296 deg
Oil temp 221 deg
FP3 engine temp 258 deg.
This seems to be ok but what would explain the diff. Between the FP3 readings and the temp gun, or are they all about equal overall?

My guess would be the fins on the heads are doing their job.Keeping the oil a little cooler.

Temps vary widely over different areas of the engine. Find the FP3 temp sensor and try an infared temp reading close to it. Probably will still be 2 different readings.
