Hey guys, I'm thinking about putting a frame mount seat on my 1987 1100 sporty. I've never done it and have many questions about the whole process. First of all ,will I have to remove the metal part of frame where the front part of original seat slides under? That leaves me with the front mount that will be going on for the new seat. I'm going with a spring seat directly on the frame with seat pivot. Will the seat pivot have to be welded on along with the spring mounts? I hope it's a better ride with springs and the shocks already on it.

I've never worked on a sportster but interested in this project.
Maybe some progress pics if you can.
 
Change of plan, found a seat mount at Mother Road Customs that only they make. Fits all or most Sportster models. It is a bolt on unit and all their 10x12, 10x13 seats with 7" on center bolt pattern will fit. Saves a lot work. Anyhow, thanks for the input. By the way, Epstein didn't kill himself!!!!!!!!!!
