Custom Bike Orders

Just want to point something out here with "custom" orders whether it be paint or something else.
The DEALER does the upgrades and NOT the factory in most cases.

If you order the bike and add a custom paint collection etc. that is a HD option, be sure to ask for the stock tins that came on the bike when you bought it when you do the upgrade. The dealers like to not mention that they do the swap when the bike comes in to the dealership and often end up keeping the stock tins for resale at their profit.

This holds true for upgrades as well like slip ons, front chrome slider upgrades etc. These are YOUR parts paid for by YOU when you bought the bike and you should get them back after the upgrade is done. Your choice there as what to do with them afterward like sell them, give them away, make a lamp etc.

There are a few exceptions here for example some dealers offer polished rotors for one that are an exchange basis and you don't get to keep the stock rotors.

ALWAYS ask before doing the job.

Just a heads up.:D

They would weasel out of it, then they sell the take offs. I would just get the new parts and sell them myself.

Although this is a little off the subject. Mods are like repairs, you should always request the old parts when you have your bike troubleshot, repaired or upgraded by the HD dealer or servicer. This reflects what was the root cause of the failure, or if they use the old part as a "Core" replacement, they still should show you the part replaced, before they send it off to be "Remanufactured" for resale. The is your right as a consumer, usually required and protected by state laws with links to the BBB and Consumer Affairs organizations.

Repairs should always be proceeded by a complete estimate and track your authorization for repairs. Your completed workorder should have start & end times, technician who serviced it and please make sure they did inspection and road test before they hand you the keys, including your new bike. Do a pre-ride inspection and when you get your ride home, do a through post ride/repair/mod inspection.
