Some here on the forum have experienced cracks in the windshield. I have seen a few that originated from the bolt holes and had some success in stopping any further migration.
If the shield has been replaced or even if it is an original, it's important to get the braces centered over the holes in the shield or they are prone to cracking the shield when the bolt contacts the shield.
You can stop the crack if it is small or just starting using a dremel tool and running it around the circumference of the hole to enlarge it just a bit and it also melts the area where the crack started to slow or even stop any further migration.
Make sure not to over tighten the bolts when assembling the braces to the shield and apply blue locktite to the nuts. Also make sure that the rubber cushion strips are properly in place before assembly, contact with the shield by the braces will crack the shield too.
